The in ground communal septic systems operate under Certificates of Approval issued by the Ontario Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks under the Ontario Water Resources Act. The Water Resources Act regulates sewage disposal and “sewage works” and prohibits the discharge of polluting materials that may impair water quality.
The systems experience a wide range of flows and organic loadings throughout the year; low in the shoulder seasons and high during the summer and winter seasons. Christmas, Family Day Weekend and the March break are the highest peak volumes.
